L 3-1
The Sox haven’t swept or been swept in the first series of the season since 2003, when they were swept by the Royals. That streak continued today as they lost to the Royals 3-1. I don’t know what it feels like to start the year with a sweep, but I bet it feels great. Anyway, this loss was not surprising; Jeremy Guthrie seems to completely own the Sox for a frustratingly unknown reason. The Sox had some chances to score late, but they couldn’t seem to get that one magical hit. That happens pretty often in baseball (at least with the Sox), and it doesn’t make losing feel any better. Neither does outhitting your opponent, as the Sox did the Royals.
Let’s get back to Jeremy Guthrie. You know who he doesn’t own? GORDON BECKHAM. That’s right. My boy was 4-4 with 4 singles. Oh yeah, and 0 RBI, 0 R. Whatever.
Are you ready for your stat of the day? I Hope so. 3 of the Sox’s 4 best batting averages belong to players in the latter third of the order. Aren’t early season stats the best?
Record: 2-1
Don't forget that against the Sox Bruce Chen is still > Guthrie
ReplyDeleteTwo guys that everyone else seems to light up (based on no evidence but my own thoughts). I think the Sox are the sole reason why their ERAs aren't doubled.
