- I actually got this email, so I figured I'd post the story about it.
- It had been too long since we last heard about Greg Ostertag. Miss that oaf.

- What will happen when the Sun dies?
It seems like the news is taking this week off, so your next two items are random. Enjoy!
- Greyhound buses can be disabled remotely! That's actually pretty cool.
- This next article is titled "How I learned to stop worrying and love the radioactive spiderwebs," and it seems like a tl;dr for most of you out there. Oh well. You win some, you lose some.

2011 In Review
Articles of the year -
- Orange juice isn't what you think it is. I have referenced this article several times since I first posted it, so it was a shoe-in for the year-end fun.
- Play around with six degrees of separation, NBA style. This site is just cool.
- Deadspin had a great post on Bruce Pearl's first con, which I obviously loved. Anything that exposed Pearl for the weasel he is had to make this list.
- This piece about Cubs fans/Wrigley Field is interesting because it is so awful, and yet it makes me so happy. A rarity, I think.
- Posted yesterday, but still one of my favorites - concussions! It's been a popular topic all year.
Videos of the year -
- Green screens are everywhere! This one is really interesting and eye-opening.
- I saw this when going through old posts and couldn't stop laughing. Such a funny video.
- The dog running down the hallway in shoes has always made me laugh.
Did I miss anything? Let me know if you have something that you want on the list.

Let me know if you have any problems. As always, the drawback of such a move is that the comments will be reset. I apologize for this, but I don't know any sort of workaround. Hopefully this is the last major change for a while.

- Check out the best TV of 2011, although you don't need a list to tell you what to like.
- Here's a great article about concussions in sports. You're probably sick of hearing about this stuff, but it's worth a read.
- NBA uniform updates!
- Very interesting information on Bill Conlin.
- Shoes! Yeah, two fashion stories today. WHATUP.

- YouTube Rewind 2011 featuring Rebecca Black... Typical year-end crap that I find amusing.
- The Smurftown decided to remain a Smurftown even after the Smurf movie was done filming. That's a lot of blue.
- Funbag.
- Tebow, religion, whatever.

- See Rob Drydek kickflip a car. OK it's really a barrel roll, but it's still amazing.
- The Quebec government is unhappy that the new Canadiens coach doesn't speak French. That's funny.
- The AT&T/T-Mobile merger had been on the fritz for a while. Now it's officially not gonna happen.
- Something reminded me of this commercial, so now I'll share it with you. One of my favorites for some reason.
Bowl Season!
I've added several tabs to the bowl page, which include previous bowl competitions, as well as an overall tab, which displays all the results in one sheet. We're three games in, and things have been running smoothly so far. Still, if you see any problems, feel free to let me know. Suggestions are always welcome, too!

- Jamboroo. Ugh.
- I hate Mario Balotelli part 2.

12/14/2011
- I just lost some respect for Aaron Rodgers.
- A few days ago Louis CK released an album on his website that was downloadable for $5. There were no DRM rights, so what you downloaded was completely yours. This experiment has not only made Louis look like a generous and intelligent person, but it's also allowing him to profit more than it would had he gone through a company.
- A wall covered in QWERTY keys seems kind of gross to me.
- Here's a kind of interesting piece on the Triangle Offense and how it's no longer used in the NBA, even though it had some success.

- Anyone looking forward to these videogames? Not me!
- I hate Mario Balotelli.
- Hah, LeBron James sounds like a dick. But he's earned that right, I suppose. Or is it a right? I don't know. Either way, the part of this article is Michael Jordan's line.

12/09/2011
- It's sad seeing Brandon Roy retire. Even though he killed Illinois, I still thought he was a good player.
- Colt McCoy doesn't remember what happened last night in his team's loss to the Steelers, which only adds to the evidence that concussions in the sport are a serious concern. Also, James Harrison is a douche.
- GMiDHF.
- Here's somewhat of a nerdy final thing, which is about why we need more programming languages than we already have.

12/08/2011
- The Angels signed Albert Pujols to a 10-year deal for at least $250 million. Too many years, too much money. Yuck.
- Jamboroo.
- Who do you believe, numerous victims accusing Jerry Sandusky of sexually abusing them, or Sandusky's wife who claims all of the accusers are making up stories? People are ridiculous.
- I'd like to remind you all of the Miami Heat Index, an ESPN page dedicated to covering nothing but the Miami Heat. Yes, when you're browsing the NBA page on espn.com, one of the menu items is "Heat Index." It is shocking that they don't also still have the Tim Tebow Tracker.

- Tired of BCS debates? Yeah, me too, but this plea for a change does make a lot of sense.
- Good lord, ESPN's 2PM SportsCenter today is "TewbowCenter." They are the ones causing all the hatred!
- Yep, Mark Buehrle's gone. Sucks that you chose the fucking Marlins.
- Hahahaha bye bye Man United and Man City. How perfect.

- Do you have a spare $1 million lying around? Perhaps you should enroll in the poker tournament with the largest ever buy-in. [via Matt]
- BCS BCS BCS, blah blah blah. I hate Nick Saban more than most, but let's all agree that Alabama winning the title would be the greatest thing that could possibly happen.
- It's bowl season! I know you all probably got my email from last night, but I'd like to share it here as well. I added an odds page that will (hopefully) update whenever lines are posted for the games. Woot woot!
EDIT: Yep, it's updating properly!

- Netherlands = screwed.
- GMiDHF.
- Adrian Peterson will not play this weekend. Normally this type of news is completely meaningless to me, but since the game's against Tebow's Broncos, suddenly I'm interested. Now the Broncos have a better chance of winning, which will only make Tebow's ultimate and inevitable demise that much more enjoyable.
- Do you think the South Park videogame will be any good? I can't imagine so. We'll see I guess, even though I have no intention of playing it.

- Imagine squashing the world's heaviest insect with your foot. Grosssssss. And it eats carrots!
All right folks, it's been a rough day. I'm going to grab two random stories to close out. I'm sorry for the lack of effort... Just didn't bring my A-game today.
- Something about a gas pump that now functions as a webcam for people to see tattoos as they're being made on their backs? I don't know, it was kind of confusing.
- Another Wired entry... Afghanistan will be just fine when the US leaves. They have rich minerals!

11/30/2011
- I didn't think I'd be seeing any arguments for Boise State in the championship game this year, but here's one. Hey, I think it'd be more entertaining than another LSU-Alabama game where I fall asleep midway through the game and wake up to find that nothing has changed.
- Apparently most Android phones have some sort of spyware on them automatically. Wonder what will come of this.
- Hanson + Beer = Sure, I'll try it. [via Nate]
QotD: "Tonight, my butt is sore." - Coach K, after Duke lost by 22 points to Ohio State. Sure, he had been talking about how they got their butts kicked, but it's still funny.

- Read about some potentially radical changes to the BCS system. Does anyone else just not care about this topic anymore?
- Brad might like this post regarding the Orioles' new look. I found it somewhat intriguing; in particular, I had no idea about this.

- In a move that surprised nobody but will frustrate many, Bud Selig announced that MLB will add two wild card teams to the playoffs, hopefully (his words, not mine) by next season.
- The Astros will be in the AL West in 2013. No, 15 teams in each league does not make sense.
- Aww, Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher are divorcing. Been a rough week for Ashton.
- Joe Posnanski's blog posts haven't been good in a while. I'm not sure why the Penn State scandal means he can no longer write about anything else.

- Yeah, probably time to say goodbye to Mark Buehrle. :-(
My news feed has over 550 unread articles right now. Instead of going through it and finding the most interesting stuff, I'm going to randomly choose three articles. Sorry for my laziness.
- Google's having a "These Go to Eleven" Android event that starts soon!
- Thank goodness Thailand has not only a canal, but a SUPER CANAL! AH!!
- NFL players continue to get fined for wearing shoes with colors that apparently violate the NFL's uniform policy. $10,000 to an athlete is like $5 to me, so whatever.
So how'd I do? 0/3 I'd say. Oh well.

- Think Insights from Google has some pretty interesting information, I suppose. It's just lots of information about things you don't really care about.
- I didn't know an Emergency Alert System test was scheduled to occur today, and I was somewhat startled when the TV blared an alert (I was home during lunch, settle down!). Nowhere did the alert say that it was a test, so I even thought something might've actually happened. Apparently the test was somewhat of a failure to others, and I have to agree.
- I'm sure you all have heard enough of the Penn State mess, but here's an interesting bit on how Curley and Shultz could avoid prosecution for not reporting child abuse.
- Coincidentally, Andy Rooney's college roommate died at Rooney's memorial service.

- For more on the Penn State stuff, read about how the scandal could affect recruiting.
- For even more, enjoy the deliciousness that six weeks ago, Penn State named a new child care center the Gary Schultz Child Care Center. Apologies to Nate for having three entries that he automatically won't care about.
- Here's a pretty good obituary on Andy Rooney. I always enjoyed watching his segments on 60 Minutes, probably because they were short, to-the-point, and unique. He let you sacrifice just a small amount of your time for something that was silly and unimportant, but I was always amused. I'll miss that.

- If I were an iPhone user, I'd be pumped that Gmail now has an app. Finally!
UPDATE: Apparently the app was removed from the shelves pretty soon after its release. Had some sort of bug, I guess. I think it'll be back soon.
- OK, I know I've probably annoyed you with my repetitive posts about Google Reader's new design, but I think this review is pretty accurate. Seriously, the new design BLOWS.
- The Cubs canned Mike Quade, a move that surprised nobody. Some say that this makes way for good ol' Ryne Sandberg to return to the Cubs. But wait! The Cardinals are interested in him for their open managerial position! Oh the drama.
- Weekly Reducer! I swear I'm going to miss it one week. Lucky I remembered this time around. Sure, it shows up in my news feed, but it's easy to miss. I tend to ignore most Grantland posts.
- 6! - It may not be good to take lyrics literally, and this may be two months old, but I was entertained. Probably because I'm not a Katy Perry fan. And this song is terrible. [via Matt]

- Google just won't stop changing shit. Here's info on the latest Gmail change, which should hit your inbox in the next few days. While I am not a fan of the whiteness (nor is Nate), that was from their last update, so I won't complain about it now. I will say that I like the improved search functionality, and the ability to resize various navigation panes will be useful. Also, I fucking hate the new Reader.
- Funbag.

- I've been passing on most of Scott Adams' blog entries lately. They can get pretty annoying sometimes. But why not share a post about a good news day?
- Bad news for the Chargers, who apparently let a player back into the game after he had a concussion. He had a seizure after the game.
- 6th thing - New Google Reader hasn't hit me yet. You?

10/28/2011
- The reactions after yesterday's incredible World Series game remind me of those after the last day of the season, when Tampa Bay and St. Louis sneaked into the playoffs. The unfortunate thing about yesterday is that it was only game 6, and it's so unlikely that game 7 will match yesterday's intensity.
- In other sporting news, the Jets beat the Flyers 9-8 last night. The Flyers goalie was pretty tough on himself, which presents us with the always amusing situation of an athlete tearing himself to shreds.
- GMiDHF.
- Is the NBA lockout over??
UPDATE: No...

10/24/2011
- Here’s somewhat of an interesting read on how seven-game series came to be, which includes this quote:
“[T]he structure of determining a champion in professional sports is still based as much on superstition as it is on rational thought.”
- A man proposed to his girlfriend on a flight, which doesn’t seem too newsworthy to me. But hey, we got a good quote out of it:
“The cabin erupted in applause as Williams said yes. Shandiz then presented her with the ring and the couple kissed awkwardly in the cramped cabin.”
- I like when scientists come up with cool ideas, like genocide-inducing mosquitoes.
- Longest Hot Wheels track ever.
- The McRib is back, which is amazing news for some people. Not really for me though. I mean, it’s good, but I don’t see how anyone can prefer it to a Big Mac.

MGMLBPE
However, the real surprise was the Rays' amazing comeback and the Red Sox' humiliating collapse. How does this tie back to the pool? Well, Brad, who had not had a perfect day all season, was 3-0 with the Orioles as his remaining team. Their comeback not only knocked the Red Sox out of the playoffs, but it also gave Brad his first perfect day of the season on the final day.
Baseball's awesome.

Soccer Changes, Updated Extension
- I added a "Games" tab to both the EPL and FLC pools. This shows what, if any, games are taking place on the current day, and it will also update with the results.
- Additionally, I created a script that emails you when you have at least one soccer game that day. It contains all of your teams and their opponents, as well as the game time. If you wish to opt out of this email, let me know.
- Finally, I updated the MGPE Chrome extension, which can be found here. Now you don't have to visit rezmanbrown.com to see the pool pages!
That's all for now.
UPDATE 1 (9/26): The script still isn't fully functioning yet. I'll make updates here as I progress, but for now, it is not ready for this weekend's games.
UPDATE 2 (9/27; 1:11 PM): I believe the script is working. We'll see come this weekend.

It's Pool Season
- The NFL and NCAAFB pools started a few weeks ago, which marks the beginning of the hectic winter in which 5 or 6 (depending on the NBA lockout) pools will be going on at the same time.
- NHL preseason starts today, so the draft is right around the corner. Look for an email from Matt with information about the draft in the next week or so.
- The EPL and FLC pools have been running smoothly with no major news to break.
- I've updated the NHL and NBA pool pages to display individual team games/results each day (similar to the MLB pool), so look forward to those changes once the seasons start.
I think that's it for now. Happy Fall/Winter pool season!

Updates to MLB Page
This update is quite obvious: there is now a Matchups tab on the workbook that highlights the day's matchups, winners, and losers. For the casual pool member/viewer, this update is probably worthless. To those that would like to know who they are defeating/losing to, it is wonderful. I don't anticipate any problems with the update, but if there are, let me know. And if you think I missed some vital bit of information, give me a holler, too.
Updates to Betting Page
- Perfect and Winless Days - if you frequent the MLB pool, these statistics should not be new. They simply count the number of days that either both (perfect) or neither (winless) bets win.
- High Streak - due to lack of spacing on the front page of the betting sheet, I settled on this term to describe the best/highest/longest streak of perfect and winless days. In the future, I imagine these stats will be useful to see if there were any points during the season where Matt and I were on incredible highs or lows. Not the most important stats, but perhaps interesting at least.
I think that's it for now. I welcome any suggestions to the Betting page, or any other page for that matter, so please toss anything my way.

It's Been A While...
- Baseball season has begun, and while currently the spreadsheet looks a little iffy, it will soon fix itself once a few more games are played.
- I have added another item to the Social menu on the home page, which is called "Betting". This will keep track of Matt as he bets against the Pirates and the Royals in each game this season. I'm quite anxious to see how this plays out, and I'm hoping the spreadsheet I've created will operate smoothly.
- NBA and NHL pools are going down to the wire (NHL much more so than NBA). Megan and Tom have been pestering Nicole for first in the NHL pool for the last few weeks, so next few weeks should be intense. And that's all you can really ask for in these pools. You know, other than winning.
- March Madness came and is nearly gone. The champion will either be Tom or Megan, depending on the outcome of the UConn/Kentucky game. The pool archive has been updated to reflect the final standings (other than the first two places).
I think that's all for now!

We haven't officially decided on a day to have the draft, but the general consensus seems to be that it should take place towards the end of spring training. If anyone would like to suggest a specific date, please do so in the comment section.
I would also like to tell you about the somewhat new approach I've taken in creating the pool page. In previous pools, I've relied heavily on manual input for the teams and their associated cells for wins, losses, and other statistics. Now, I've come up with a way where all I have to do is input the player's team name in the appropriate cell on the standings page, and all the matching up will automatically occur. This should cut down on any input errors that could occur, and will make creating the final spreadsheet as simple as possible. Let me know if you notice any bugs!

Page Name Update
Although this may cause you some slight problems now, I hope that in the future this all lower-case naming convention will make things easier. I apologize for any issues this may cause.

About That Email...
"Overall - Record: #VALUE!-#VALUE!; Place: #VALUE!"
I have looked into this issue, and I believe it has been resolved. The only way I can know for sure is to wait and see next week's email. So here's to hoping that we don't see anymore of this issue.
UPDATE (2/20/11): OK, I'm pretty sure I actually fixed it this time. We'll see come Sunday next week...

MGNBAPE Weekly Email
I would appreciate any feedback you have on this. In particular, is there some stat that I am not including in the emails that you'd like to see? Is once a week a good frequency for the update emails?
