'13-5

W 4-3 (10)

This felt like a game that the Sox should have lost. They were outhit 7-5, and at one point 16 Sox hitters in a row were retired. For a moment in the 10th inning, I was convinced they were going to lose another extra innings game to the Mariners, but Addison Reed escaped trouble, which left the Sox with a chance to pounce in the bottom half. Dayan Viciedo was the savior with a no-doubter, and the Sox won their second series of the year.

The 16 hitters in a row being retired is an issue. To me, it just feels like this happens to the Sox so frequently. This is probably a downside of being a HR or die team; when you don't hit the homers, you're not going to reach base. Anyway, I'll take today's win. The Sox go on the road to Washington starting Tuesday, and part of me would be happy just taking one there.

Stat of the Day: I know it's early, but the Sox are 3-1 in one-run games this year. Not a crazy stat, but I think it will be a good one to track as the season progresses. I think if the Sox are going to make the postseason, they're going to have to win quite a few close ones.

Record: 4-2
